The Progress Code

How we work and what we stand for.

The Progress Report is an independent publication underwritten by Just Eat Local, created to share stories of food, drink, and culture that strengthen community and protect the land.

The Progress Code is our guide for how we tell those stories, with honesty, curiosity, and care. It defines the standards that shape our reporting, the independence that protects it, and the respect we owe to everyone we cover.

In short: we report progress with the following as guardrails:

1. Editorial Independence

  • Our stories are selected, written, and edited independently from Just Eat Local’s business or marketing priorities.
  • When a story includes one of our restaurants, partners, or funders, that relationship is clearly disclosed.
  • If errors occur, we correct them promptly and transparently.
  • Headlines, photos, and summaries must accurately reflect the story’s substance.
  • We treat everyone we write about with dignity and respect.
  • We seek informed consent when interviewing or photographing individuals.
  • Funding sources are publicly disclosed on our site.
  • We do not accept government funding.
  • Sponsored or branded content is clearly labeled and kept separate from editorial work.
  • We publish stories that align with our mission to highlight progress, resilience, and creativity in Idaho’s food systems and communities.
  • We don’t commission work intended to expose or punish.
  • When challenges arise, we approach them with empathy and honesty.
  • We acknowledge mistakes promptly and clearly.
  • Readers are invited to share feedback, questions, and corrections.
  • Our policies are reviewed annually to ensure integrity and relevance.

We work to write with humility, curiosity, and optimism, reflecting the same care we see in the people and places we cover.
